Ravi Shankar Elevated To Executive Director At RBI
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director with effect from July 1, 2026, strengthening its senior leadership team.Prior to his elevation, Shankar served as Adviser-in-Charge of the Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM). In his new role, he will continue to head the department, which is responsible for statistical data collection, analysis and research supporting the central bank's monetary and financial policy functions.
Shankar is a career central banker and statistician with more than three decades of experience at the RBI. Over the course of his career, he has worked across corporate and banking statistics, government securities markets, settlement systems, debt management and survey-based research.
He holds a Master's degree in Statistics from Banaras Hindu University and a Diploma in Development Policy and Planning from the Institute of Economic Growth, Delhi.
The appointment marks the RBI's second Executive Director elevation in recent months. In May 2026, the central bank appointed Gunveer Singh as Executive Director for the Department of Payment and Settlement Systems.
As Executive Director, Shankar will continue to oversee the RBI's statistical and information management functions, supporting data-driven policy formulation, financial sector analysis and research across the central bank.
