Uttar Pradesh Leads India's GST Growth With 19% Jump In June
Uttar Pradesh emerged as India's fastest-growing major state in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections during June 2026, posting a robust 19 per cent year-on-year increase that significantly outpaced the national average and most large state economies.According to official GST data, Uttar Pradesh's GST collections rose to Rs 9,165 crore in June 2026 from Rs 7,675 crore in the corresponding month last year, registering the strongest growth among the country's major states.
Nationally, gross GST collections increased 7 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1,34,774 crore, compared with Rs 1,26,506 crore in June 2025.
UP Outperforms Major State Economies
Among India's largest state economies, Uttar Pradesh recorded the strongest annual growth in GST collections, registering a 19 per cent increase in June 2026. The state outperformed all other major economies, including Gujarat (12 per cent), Telangana and Kerala (11 per cent each), Karnataka (10 per cent), Maharashtra and Haryana (9 per cent each), Delhi (8 per cent), and Bihar and Andhra Pradesh (5 per cent each).
Meanwhile, some major states reported lower collections than a year ago. Tamil Nadu registered a 2 per cent decline, Rajasthan fell 5 per cent, while Madhya Pradesh also declined 5 per cent.
Strong Domestic Consumption And Business Activity
The sharp rise in Uttar Pradesh's GST collections points to sustained economic activity across manufacturing, services, infrastructure and consumer spending.
The state has consistently emerged as one of India's fastest-growing economies, supported by rising infrastructure investment, industrial expansion, improved tax compliance and increasing formalisation of businesses.
Higher GST collections are generally viewed as an indicator of stronger commercial transactions and improved tax administration.
Mixed Performance Across States
While several smaller states and Union Territories recorded sharper percentage increases owing to their relatively lower tax base, Uttar Pradesh stood out among the larger economies because of both the scale and pace of its GST collections.
Among the smaller jurisdictions, the Centre Jurisdiction recorded the highest growth at 65 per cent, followed by Manipur (62 per cent), Lakshadweep (59 per cent) and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands (53 per cent).
On the other hand, Sikkim (-53 per cent), Puducherry (-28 per cent), Himachal Pradesh (-26 per cent), Uttarakhand (-21 per cent) and Jammu & Kashmir (-15 per cent) recorded sharp declines in GST revenues.
National Collections Continue To Rise
India's GST collections maintained a positive growth trajectory in June despite mixed regional performances. The overall 7 per cent increase suggests continued resilience in domestic demand and formal economic activity, although growth varied significantly across states.
With its 19 per cent increase, Uttar Pradesh not only remained one of the country's largest GST contributors but also emerged as the clear growth leader among India's major states, underscoring its expanding role in the national economy.
