The Indian Premier League （IPL） is a professional Twenty20 cricket league in India contested during April and May of every year by teams representing Indian cities. The league was founded by the Board of Control for Cricket in India （BCCI） in 2008.
The IPL is the most-attended cricket league in the world and in 2014 was ranked sixth by average attendance among all sports leagues. The brand value of IPL in 2019 was US$6.3 billion, according to Duff & Phelps.
There is also the Indian Super League （ISL）, which is a professional football league in India. It is one of the top football leagues in South Asia and was founded in 2013 to grow the sport of football in India and increase its exposure in the country.
The ISL currently features 11 clubs from across India and operates on the system of promotion and relegation with the I-League. The league has helped develop local Indian football talent while also bringing international stars to the country. |
