Adani Energy Solutions (AESL) has secured an interstate transmission project worth around Rs 8,500 crore in Andhra Pradesh to supply power to upcoming green hydrogen and green ammonia projects in the Visakhapatnam region. The project was awarded under the Centre's Tariff-Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) framework, according to an official company release.
The transmission system is expected to meet an estimated power demand of around 4,500 MW from proposed green molecule projects in Vizag. It will also strengthen the grid in the Pendurthi–Visakhapatnam corridor, where large-scale data centres and other digital infrastructure projects are planned, the release said.
The project will be implemented through a special purpose vehicle, Vizag Power Transmission Ltd. It includes two high-capacity substations at Pendurthi in Visakhapatnam and Khammam-II, around 1,582 circuit kilometres of transmission lines, and 10,500 MVA of transformation capacity, according to the company. Upon completion, AESL's transmission network will expand to 29,531 circuit kilometres, while its transformation capacity will increase to around 1,33,675 MVA. The company said the project is scheduled to be completed within 30 months.
Supports Green Energy, Digital Infrastructure
"The Vizag transmission project is an important step in building the energy backbone for India's next generation of industrial growth," Kandarp Patel, CEO of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, said in the release. He added that the project would support green hydrogen and green ammonia development in Andhra Pradesh while strengthening the grid for rising digital infrastructure demand in the Pendurthi–Vizag region.
According to the company, Andhra Pradesh is developing a green energy ecosystem around Visakhapatnam by leveraging its industrial base, port infrastructure and renewable energy potential. The state is also seeing growing interest in hyperscale data centres, AI infrastructure and subsea connectivity projects, which are expected to increase electricity demand.
The latest project has taken AESL's transmission order book beyond Rs 80,000 crore, further strengthening its position as the country's largest private-sector transmission and distribution company, the release added. |
