Robert Vadra on Tuesday responded after Congress MP Imran Masood pitched his wife and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as a potential prime ministerial face for the party, triggering fresh political chatter within Congress circles.

Reacting to the remarks, Priyanka Gandhi’s husband told news agency IANS that the focus should remain on public issues rather than leadership speculation. “There are demands from everywhere that Priyanka should come forward. There are also demands that I should enter politics. But right now, we should focus on the real issues that concern the people.”

Imran Masood backs Priyanka Gandhi

Earlier in the day, Imran Masood defended Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s strong comments on the violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh, saying she would respond decisively if given national leadership responsibilities.

Speaking to ANI news agency, Masood said, “… Is Priyanka Gandhi the Prime Minister? Make her the Prime Minister and see how she will retaliate like Indira Gandhi. She is Priyanka Gandhi. She has Gandhi added behind her name. She is the granddaughter of Indira Gandhi, who inflicted so much damage on Pakistan that those wounds still haven’t healed. Make her the Prime Minister and see how she will retaliate. You won’t dare to do that.”

Despite such remarks, the Congress has traditionally projected Rahul Gandhi as its principal leader in the contest against the BJP’s dominance in national politics.
Who is the better leader?

Senior Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury has said that Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have distinct styles of addressing issues and should not be compared. Chowdhury made the remarks in an interview with a news channel, responding to discussions that arose after Priyanka Gandhi’s fiery speech in Parliament went viral.

Many media and political observers noted that Priyanka Gandhi’s address appeared structured and composed, while her brother, a seasoned politician, came across as argumentative and direct, particularly when discussing policies or institutional matters. “They are like apples and oranges” who cannot and should not be compared, Renuka Chowdhury told NDTV.
The Congress leader added that the two were speaking on different subjects, which must be considered before making any comparisons. Such comparisons, she said, were “psychobabble”, though people were “entitled to their opinion”.

“Priyanka Gandhi is very good, hands on. She has spoken what she had spoken. Rahul spoke on a different subject. His style is different,” Renuka Chowdhury said.
