Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, has entered into a strategic partnership linked to the development of a new oil refinery project in the United States, at a time when global energy markets are under pressure due to supply disruptions and geopolitical tensions. The refinery is planned at the Port of Brownsville in Texas and is being developed by America First Refining. The project is being positioned as the first new oil refinery to be built in the United States in nearly 50 years, highlighting efforts to expand refining capacity and strengthen energy security.
The proposed facility is designed to process about 160,000 to 168,000 barrels of crude oil per day and will primarily run on American shale oil. Reliance has committed investment support to the project and has also signed a long-term agreement to purchase refined products from the facility. The partnership reflects the company’s strategy of strengthening its global energy footprint while securing access to refined fuels amid volatile market conditions.
The refinery project is expected to support domestic fuel supply in the United States and boost energy exports while generating economic activity in the region. The development comes as global oil markets face heightened uncertainty due to geopolitical conflicts that have disrupted supply chains and pushed up energy prices.
