Political speculation over a possible reshuffle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Union Cabinet has intensified, with several reports suggesting that new faces could be inducted as the BJP prepares for key state elections. Among the names generating significant buzz is that of Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, who is being linked to a possible ministerial role.
While there has been no official confirmation from the government or the BJP regarding a Cabinet expansion, unconfirmed reports suggest that the reshuffle could involve the induction of fresh faces, the reassignment of portfolios and the exit of some existing ministers.
Punjab is believed to be a key focus of the reported exercise as the BJP looks to strengthen its organisational and political presence ahead of the state's Assembly elections. Political observers say the party may seek greater representation from Punjab in the Union Cabinet.
Raghav Chadha is among the names being discussed in political circles. However, neither Chadha nor the BJP has publicly commented on the speculation. Reports also suggest that BJP General Secretary Tarun Chugh and senior Punjab BJP leader Sunil Jakhar remain potential contenders for Cabinet roles. Although Chugh has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh, the absence of a Rajya Sabha nomination for Jakhar does not necessarily rule him out for ministerial consideration.
The BJP's decision not to nominate Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu to the Rajya Sabha has further fuelled speculation that the party could introduce new faces from Punjab in the Union government.
Adding to the discussion around Chadha's political profile is his recent appointment as Chairman of the Rajya Sabha Petitions Committee after Chairman CP Radhakrishnan reconstituted the panel. The development has drawn attention amid the ongoing Cabinet reshuffle buzz, although there is no official indication linking the appointment to any ministerial prospects.
The speculation comes as the BJP sharpens its focus on Punjab following its recent electoral gains elsewhere. The party has appointed Sikh leader Kewal Singh Dhillon as its Punjab president and has signalled its intention to contest the next Assembly election independently, without the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD). BJP leaders have increasingly focused on issues such as law and order, drug abuse, religious conversions and development as part of the party's strategy in the state. |
