Kabaddi is a traditional Indian sport that combines elements of wrestling and tag. The game is played between two teams of seven players each, on a rectangular court divided into two halves.
The objective of kabaddi is for a single player, called the raider, to run into the opposing team\“s half, tag as many defenders as possible, and return to their own half, all while holding their breath and chanting kabaddi. The defenders try to stop the raider from returning to their side by tackling them.
Kabaddi requires strength, speed, stamina, and strategic thinking. It is particularly popular in rural India and has gained international recognition through professional leagues like the Pro Kabaddi League.
The sport is governed by the International Kabaddi Federation and is played in various formats including standard style, circle style, and beach kabaddi. It has been part of the Asian Games since 1990. |
