Thanks to the entry of multiplexes and the exorbitant prices charged by them, it’s only diehard fans who continue to patronize cinema halls.
Against this backdrop, people like iBomma Ravi are being viewed as some sort of a Robin Hood. Steal from the rich and give to the poor.
Piracy is not a new thing! It will always be around in some format or the other. Given the opportunity, the common man will always prefer the theatrical experience over any other.
Following the arrest of Ravi, the biggies of the film industry including Chiranjeevi and Nagarjuna were part of a press meet that detailed the huge losses to big-ticket films like Game Changer, Thandel, Kingdom and OG because of Ravi.
That is like addressing the symptoms and not the root-cause. A simple pleasure has been turned into a luxury.
Every time that a big film releases, the hero and producers meet politicians and get special price hikes for their particular films.
Have they ever shown any inclination to make cinema more affordable again to the masses?
Therefore, the common man will be least bothered about the film industry or piracy! Ravi might have been arrested today but someone else will come along in this flawed ecosystem.
The film industry is displaying a sense of solidarity in condemning Ravi’s arrest but are they not equally to blame for the current state of things?
