The Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Wednesday issued a strong statement against Rahul Gandhi’s critique of the setup of the manufacturing industry in India, accusing him of spreading “fake news” about the country’s growth story.
Following his visit to the BMW plant in Germany earlier this week, Gandhi praised world-class manufacturing in Germany on his social media account and said that India needed to produce more to create jobs.
Presenting the reasoning behind his opinion, the congress leader said that manufacturing was the backbone of strong economies and argued that India needed better manufacturing ecosystems and large-scale job creation to boost growth.
Reflecting on the status of the industry, Gandhi opined that manufacturing in India was ‘sadly declining’, a remark that drew an immediate response from the ruling party.
BJP flags Gandhi’s claims as “false and misleading”
BJP on Wednesday initiated a strongly worded statement where it rejected Gandhi’s claims and accused him of misrepresenting the state of Indian manufacturing. Party spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari labeled Gandhi’s claims as “fake news” and accused the leader of opposition of spreading misinformation about India’s growth story.

Bhandari said hard data showed strong growth in Indian manufacturing, particularly in electronics and automobiles. He argued that numbers, not political slogans, reflected the true picture of the country’s progress under the Narendra Modi-led government.

The BJP spokesperson accused Rahul Gandhi of denying economic reality, while insisting that factories, exports and data told a different story. Highlighting India’s growing auto-manufacturing segment, Bhandari pointed out that vehicle production in India has grown fourteenfold over the past 33 years.
Concluding his statement, the party spokesperson added that India was now targeting 50 million vehicles by 2030 and aimed to become one of the top two auto manufacturers globally. |
