Taking to his official X account on Wednesday evening, the AIMIM leader wrote online, “Sir @DrSJaishankar request your urgent attention to evacuate this Indian student (Ayman Fatima) stranded in Tehran, Iran.” He further reported that the student originally hailed from Noorkhan Bazar in Darulshifa in Hyderabad, and was currently enrolled in Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences.

Owaisi’s post, in turn, was a direct response to a user named Mohammed Abulhasan’s plea on X. Writing early January 13, the man claiming to be the Hyderabadi student’s father urged Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Owaisi and EAM Jaishankar “to evacuate the children before the situation worsens.”
Iran protests: India issues advisory, announces other measures

Owaisi’s public call to action was raised hot on the heels of the Indian Government issuing an advisory for Indian nationals regarding travel to Iran. On January 14, an official Ministry of External Affairs press release advised Indian citizens to avoid travel to the country until further notice. The firm declaration was rolled out in light of the ongoing developments in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Mass protests against the current Iranian regime commenced late December. Since then, the country’s government has employed a brutal crackdown of the demonstrations, even pushing for an internet blackout.
As per the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) heavily cited by news outlets like CNN, Reuters and more, at least 2,400 protesters have been killed since last month.

Consequently, top carrier Air India also announced that its flights in the Iranian region would be rerouted due to the “emerging situation” in the country. In light of the concerning developments, a closure of the Iranian airspace was enforced.
Alerting that flights that can’t be rerouted will be cancelled, the Indian airlines said in a formal statement, “Air India flights overflying the region are now using an alternative routing, which may lead to delays.”
