Who is Sarabjeet Kaur?

Although originally an Indian woman practicing the Sikh religion, Sarabjeet Kaur changed nearly everything about her life after travelling to Pakistan in November 2025. Having visited the neighbouring country along with a large group of pilgrims to pray at various gurdwaras, she was meant to return to India over a week later.

However, she was eventually reported missing from the group of pilgrims. Days later, several reports from Pakistan suggested that Kaur had changed her entire identity and converted to Islam in early November itself. Adopting the purported changes, she also ended up changing her name to Noor Hussain upon marrying a Pakistani man, Nasir Hussain, who reportedly lives in the Sheikhpura district near Lahore.

Earlier this month, Sarabjeet Kaur was scheduled to be deported to India via the Wagah border. While no reasons were revealed beforehand, Pakistani media later reported that documentation-related issues blocked the process. Given the latest reported development, Kaur is now stuck in a limbo, as lack of clarity surrounding her legal status shrouds the case altogether.
It is believed that the Indian woman lacks any lawful status in Pakistan, especially in light of her pilgrimage visa’s expiration.
