The key political contest at Kolhapur will be between Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Mahayuti alliance and Congress led opposition. BJP contested for the maximum number of seats (36) within the Mahahyuti alliance followed by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena which will be competing for 30 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP which will be fighting for 15 seats.
Meanwhile, the Congress is contesting largely on its own and has fielded candidates for 75 out of the 81 available seats in Kolhapur after limited coordination within the broader opposition camp.

Kolhapur Election Results 2026: Voter turnout and campaign promises
When compared with other corporations across Maharashtra, Kolhapur received a relatively high voter turnout of 50.85 per cent yesterday which included a larger share of women and young adults particularly Gen Z.
The Mahayuti alliance had based its campaign on promises of extending the Ladki Bahin Yojana (credited with ₹2,100/month for women) in the region and ensuring city-wide development. Meanwhile Congress has centred its campaign on localised ward-level issues, challenging BJP’s track record on basic civic amenities.

Kolhapur Election Results 2026: Independent candidates add to the math
A larger presence of rebel candidates and independents in the region with strong local followings and family networks has added complexity to counting-day mathematics in multi-member wards where margins are expected to be narrow.
The outcome in Kolhapuris expected to resonate beyond the city limits, with similar civic verdicts unfolding in Latur and Jalna, making today a key test of urban voter sentiment across Maharashtra.
