The West Bengal Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a dig at Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday, after the Calcutta High Court disposed off a petition seeking protection of Trinamool Congress's data, allegedly seized during the Enforcement Directorate's recent raids at the I-PAC office in the state.
BJP co-incharge for West Bengal, Amit Malviya, called the Calcutta High Court's decision a massive embarrassment for the Trinamool Congress and its chief, Mamata Banerjee. The BJP leader said Trinamool Congress's corruption and its corrupt links will soon be exposed. The BJP leader added central agencies and constitutional authorities cannot be intimidated by "political theatrics."
The ED recently raided the premises of poll consultancy I-PAC and its director Pratik Jain's office and home last week. During the raids, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee barged into I-PAC's office and took away files reportedly related to her party.
"The Calcutta High Court has set aside Mamata Banerjee's objection against the Enforcement Directorate, delivering a sharp rebuke to her blatant interference. Over to the Supreme Court now," Malviya said in a social media post.
"This episode exposes her contempt for the rule of law and her desperation to shield corruption. Constitutional authorities cannot be intimidated by political theatrics and the High Court has made that amply clear," Malviya added
Saying "the chief minister has now been firmly put in her place," Malviya alleged the "episode exposes her contempt for the rule of law and her desperation to shield corruption."

BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari also targeted Banerjee and said the Calcutta High Court is a "massive embarrassment" to the ruling Trinamool Congress. "The chief minister is personally responsible for preventing investigation with the abetment of her DGP in the offence," he alleged.
On Wednesday, ED informed the high court that it has not seized any documents during the raids. The central agency has also filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Banerjee, accusing her of obstructing their probe. |
