Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the attack on Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai on Monday. Modi dialled the chief justice and condemned the incident.
In a post on X, the prime minister said the attack on CJI has angered every Indian. "Spoke to Chief Justice of India, Justice BR Gavai Ji. The attack on him earlier today in the Supreme Court premises has angered every Indian. There is no place for such reprehensible acts in our society,"  Modi tweeted.

Condemning the incident, the prime minister appreciated the CJI for his calm response to the attack. "It is utterly condemnable. I appreciated the calm displayed by Justice Gavai in the face of such a situation. It highlights his commitment to values of justice and strengthening the spirit of our Constitution."
An elderly lawyer, Rakesh Kishore (71), tried to hurl a shoe at Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai in his courtroom in the Supreme Court on Monday.  Kishore approached the dais on a raised platform, removed his shoe and tried to throw it towards the judges, PTI reported.
However, alert security personnel present inside the courtroom thwarted Kishore's attempt to attack the CJI, and he was immediately escorted out of the court premises. According to police, Kishore was apparently unhappy with Chief Justice Gavai's observations while hearing a plea about the restoration of a seven-foot-tall dilapidated Lord Vishnu idol in the Khajuraho Temple complex in Madhya Pradesh.
Police also recovered a note which read, "Sanatan dharma ka apmaan nahi sahega Hindustan" (India will not tolerate insults to Sanatan Dharma), from his possession.

However, an unfazed CJI asked lawyers in the room to continue proceedings. "Don't get distracted by all this. We are not distracted. These things do not affect me," CJI Gavai said.
Delhi police questioned Kishore for three hours, and he was allowed to go as court officials did not lodge a formal complaint over the attempted attack. His shoe was also returned.
