DGCA To Monitor Airfares As Airlines Add 1,700+ Extra Flights For Festive Rush

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has stepped up monitoring of airfares and flight capacities ahead of the festive season, acting on the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s directive to prevent any sharp fare surges.
To manage the expected spike in travel demand, the DGCA engaged with airlines and advised them to enhance capacity by introducing additional flights. In response, major carriers have committed to deploying over 1,700 extra services across key routes during the festive period.
IndiGo will operate around 730 additional flights across 42 sectors, while Air India and Air India Express will together add approximately 486 flights on 20 sectors. SpiceJet plans to operate 546 additional flights across 38 sectors, the DGCA said.
The aviation regulator said it will continue to maintain “rigourous oversight” of airfares and flight capacity deployment to ensure consumer interests are protected during the high-demand travel season.
