Pakistan bombed major cities in Afghanistan including the capital Kabul on Friday (February 27, 2026), with Islamabad’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif declaring the neighbours at “open war” following months of tit-for-tat clashes.

Afghanistan’s Government said Friday it wanted “dialogue” to resolve its conflict with neighbouring Pakistan following deadly fighting on Thursday overnight (February 26, 2026).
“Pakistani air strikes hit 22 Afghan military targets. At least 12 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 274 Taliban officials and militants were killed since Thursday night,” military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry.

The Afghan Taliban “successfully conducted” air strikes using drones to hit military targets in Pakistan, its Defence Ministry and a Government Spokesperson said on Friday, as fighting between the neighbours continued. Pakistan’s latest operation came after Afghan forces attacked Pakistani border troops on Thursday night over earlier air strikes by Islamabad.
