The Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) has appointed Souvagya Mohapatra, Managing Director – India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, Atmosphere Core, as Chair of the FICCI Eastern Region Tourism Committee under its National Tourism Committee for a one-year term.
With more than three decades of experience, Mohapatra currently leads Atmosphere Core's expansion strategy across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, while contributing to the company's broader growth across the Asia-Pacific region. The hospitality company operates resort brands across the Maldives, India and the Indian Ocean region and has announced plans to expand its portfolio with new properties across India.
In his new role at FICCI, Mohapatra will work with industry, government and community stakeholders to support tourism development across Eastern India. His responsibilities will include contributing to policy recommendations, promoting investment, supporting capacity-building initiatives and encouraging collaboration to strengthen regional tourism.
The appointment comes at a time when India's tourism sector is witnessing growth driven by improved infrastructure, increasing domestic travel and rising international interest. FICCI expects Mohapatra's experience in hotel development, destination promotion and regional brand building to support efforts aimed at improving connectivity, tourism infrastructure and service standards.
Mohapatra has built his career across the hospitality industry with a focus on operational excellence, business expansion and guest experience. At Atmosphere Core, he has also led initiatives centred on the company's "Joy of Giving" philosophy, which emphasises authentic experiences, service culture and sustainable value creation.
His appointment is expected to support FICCI's agenda of promoting tourism as a driver of economic development through destination marketing, investment, sustainability and cultural preservation.
