The University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) 2026 has come under scrutiny after candidates reported alleged irregularities in multiple subject papers, including repeated questions, translation errors and out-of-syllabus content.
Several candidates claimed that 67 questions in the English paper were repeated from a previous UGC NET examination, raising concerns about the quality and fairness of the question paper.
Similar complaints have also emerged from candidates who appeared for the Sociology and Psychology papers. According to examinees, these papers contained translation errors, grammatical mistakes and questions that they believe were outside the prescribed syllabus.
The allegations have prompted discussions among candidates on social media, with many seeking clarification from the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the examination. Some candidates have also called for a review of the disputed questions and appropriate corrective measures during the evaluation process.
The NTA has not issued an official statement on the allegations at the time of writing.
UGC NET is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of Assistant Professor, Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and admission to PhD programmes in universities and higher education institutions across India.
