New Delhi / Paris : Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs visited the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor facility at Cadarache in southern France, marking a high-level engagement with one of the world’s most ambitious scientific collaborations.

During the visit, she was briefed on the progress of ITER, a flagship global initiative aimed at demonstrating the feasibility of nuclear fusion as a large-scale, sustainable energy source. The project brings together seven major international partners, including India, along with several associated cooperating countries, all working toward developing the world’s largest experimental tokamak reactor.
The Finance Minister attended a detailed presentation outlining India’s contributions to the project, delivered by senior ITER officials Mr. Alain Becoulet and Mr. Kattalai Ramachandran Sriram. She was also taken through key operational and construction areas of the facility, including the Cleaning Hall, Assembly Hall, and a viewing of the Tokamak Pit—where the central fusion experiments are being designed and assembled.

Throughout the guided tour, she was apprised of the complex engineering and precision manufacturing processes involved in building the reactor, which represents one of the most technically challenging scientific endeavours currently underway globally.
expressed appreciation for the dedication and expertise of scientists and engineers working on the ITER project. She acknowledged the collaborative spirit driving the initiative and highlighted its significance as a potential breakthrough in achieving clean, sustainable, and near-limitless energy in the future.
