The government will introduce five new bills during Parliament's Monsoon Session beginning on Monday, including measures to replace ordinances on income tax and the strength of Supreme Court judges, as it pushes ahead with a legislative agenda spanning judicial, administrative and economic reforms.
The session, scheduled to run from 20 July to 13 August, will also see the government take up two pending bills already before Parliament, according to the listed legislative business.
Among the new legislations, the government is expected to table the Income-tax (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Supreme Court (Number of Judges) Amendment Bill, 2026, both aimed at replacing ordinances currently in force.
It will also introduce the Registration of Births and Deaths (Amendment) Bill, 2026, the Prevention of Insults to National Honour (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (Amendment) Bill, 2026.
The government will additionally seek consideration of two bills that are already pending in Parliament: the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2026, introduced in the Lok Sabha in March, and the Viksit Bharat Shiksha Adhishthan Bill, 2025, which was introduced in December last year and later referred to a Joint Committee.
The proposed measures cover a broad range of policy areas, including taxation, judicial administration, business regulation, civil registration and education, forming a key part of the government's legislative programme for the session. |
