Pawan Kalyan’s OG is racing toward the $5 million club in North America after raking in a massive $3 million from premiere shows alone.
Two theories have been circulating: one suggests that the overseas distributor already entered profit territory with the premieres themselves, while another points to delays in content delivery and escalated costs that may have eaten into the margins.
Even so, by the end of its second day, the distributor was already in profit. While it’s too early to predict the film’s final gross, current trends indicate that OG could easily surpass the $6 million mark in North America.
Unlike biggies such as Kalki 2898 AD and Pushpa 2, which grossed over $15 million overseas but were sold at sky-high prices, OG is a different case.
Made on a comparatively modest budget and without heavy reliance on VFX, the film was acquired for a reasonable price considering Pawan Kalyan’s stardom.
For perspective, the distributor’s break-even point was just $2.5 million. Even after factoring in additional expenses, profits began once the film crossed the $3 million mark.
If OG ends its run beyond $6 million, it could very well emerge as the most profitable biggie in recent times overseas. |
