What initially appeared to be a tragic late-night road accident in Bengaluru’sElectronics City has taken a chilling turn. Police have shifted their investigation from a traffic mishap to a cold-blooded murder after dashcam footage revealed a software engineer deliberately used his SUV to kill his friend following a drunken brawl.
The victim, 33-year-old Prashanth M, was killed late Sunday night after being repeatedly rammed into a compound wall and a tree while clinging to the side of a Tata Safaridriven by his friend, 36-year-old Roshan Hegde, according to a report by The Times of India.
How dashcam footage reveals the truth

The truth came out after M Narayana, DCP (Electronics City), noticed a dashcam inside the car and ordered officials to check the footage. Police told the news outlet that Hegde deliberately rammed the SUV twice in an attempt to kill Prashanth, who was hanging on to the front-left side of the vehicle, after driving for about 600 metres.

Prashanth lived in Veerasandra in Electronics City, while Hegde is a resident of Vignananagar and hails from Udupi district. Based on a complaint filed by Prashanth’s mother, Anu, police registered a murder case against Roshan, the report mentioned.

Initially, a passer-by mistook the incident for a road crash and informed the police, following which Roshan was taken to a hospital. The case was first treated as an accident until DCP M Narayana noticed the dashcam and ordered the footage to be examined.
The dashcam footage showed that Hegde suddenly sped up and deliberately crashed the SUV into a compound wall, then reversed the vehicle and rammed it again into a tree. In the two violent impacts, Prashanth, who was clinging to the vehicle from outside, suffered severe injuries and died on the spot.
“After confirming it was an intentional act, we went to the hospital where Roshan Hegde was undergoing treatment. Doctors informed us that his tongue was almost severed and that he underwent a minor surgery. He was discharged on Monday and was taken into custody for interrogation,” Narayana told TOI.

From cricket field to fatal confrontation

Police said a group of men had gathered to play cricket in Kammasandra on Sunday evening and later consumed alcohol. In an intoxicated state, Prashanth allegedly approached Hegde to ask for a lighter and abused him, which led to an argument. “In a fit of rage, Hegde assaulted Prashanth and both attacked each other with beer bottles. As the situation escalated, Roshan got into his Tata Safari and tried to leave,” TOI reported quoting the police officer.

As Hegde drove off, Prashanth jumped onto the SUV’s left footboard and held on to the front-left window. The dashcam footage showed Hegde initially driving at around 35 kmph before accelerating on an empty stretch, crashing into a compound wall, reversing, and then hitting a tree.
Police added that the dashcam also recorded both men abusing and threatening each other.
